CCAC Membership Meeting – “Fair Housing, Reasonable Accommodations, and Emotional Support Animals: Do’s and Definitely Don’ts”

Our guests this month will be Tejash V. Sanchala, Esq., Executive Director of the Westchester County Human Rights Commission and Joshua Levin, Director of Operations, Westchester County Human Rights Commission.
One of the requirements under federal, state, and county fair housing laws is that co-ops and condos are required to provide reasonable accommodations to those living with disabilities. Some requests may be relative straightforward and obvious; others, like requests to accommodate an emotional support animal in a pet-free building, may require more dialogue and more of an iterative process. Though each complaint of a Fair Housing violation that comes before the Westchester County Human Rights Commission is fact-specific and will depend on the circumstances, our guests will walk us through what the law requires, how complaints are made and what an investigation will entail, and what their investigators typically look at in such cases.
