onstruction that uses thick\, insulated walls and roofs\, triple-pane windo
ws and other methods of exterior enclosure to substantially reduce the ener
gy use of the building. As a result of the energy efficient exterior enclos
ure\, the mechanical systems needed to heat and cool the house can be more
energy-efficient options\, such as air-source heat pump mini-splits or geot
hermal systems. This method also eliminates the use of fossil fuel systems
and\, if combined with solar panels\, wind turbines\, or other site-generat
ed sources of electricity\, means the entire building could be net-zero.</s
