Study after study has shown that building new housing in downtown areas — particularly in an area experiencing a major housing shortage like Westchester — brings with it positive benefits for property taxes, for economic activities, and for local businesses. But there is also the potential for impacts like traffic or parking. We’ll hear from officers at local chambers of commerce where there’s been a recent increase in housing, particularly those that are consistent with “smart growth” principles, including downtown revitalization, infill or adaptive reuse, transit-oriented development in the like.
