Join us for our September Membership Meeting!
Our Topic Will Be: “Planning and Responding to Immigration Enforcement at Worksites: Do’s, Don’ts, and How to Prepare”
The past few months have seen an increase in the number of unannounced operations conducted by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents targeting individuals suspected of violating federal immigration law. These have included targeted enforcement actions aimed at a specific individual, sweeps of worksites or public areas, or I-9 Audits aimed at particular businesses. We have seen many of these actions in New York State, and are expecting many more employer-targeted actions with the exponential increase in funding for ICE as part of the recently-passed “big, beautiful, bill” and the opens in a new windowannounced intentions of White House “border czar” Tom Homan.
How should employers prepare for an unannounced action at their jobsite? What rights do employers have in such encounters? What rights do employees have? If an employee is mistakenly or incorrectly taken into custody, what should be your next steps?
Our panel of experts will guide you through the do’s, the don’ts, and how you can best be prepared at your place of business.
We’ll begin with informal networking and discussion at 5:00 PM.
The main program will begin at 6:00 PM.
